Set of 12 Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles Multicolor Square 7.5 Plates

  
This set of 12 square salad plates are in the Old Britain Castles pattern by Johnson Brothers. They all depict Belvoir Castle in 1792. These are brown transferware with multicolored embellishments.

Each plate measures approximately 7 5/8" by 7 5/8". Ten of the plates are marked on the back with the crown and Johnson Bros, England, Old Britain Castles, All decoration under the glaze permanent & acid resisting colors.

Two of the plates are marked only with the crown, Johnson Bros, England, Old Britain Castles. Those two plates are also a slightly lighter color, especially the brown and green on the trees. Perhaps they were made earlier then the other plates. One is in picture number 4 in the upper left corner (with a closeup in picture number 5), and the other is in picture number 8 in the upper right corner. This set is in very good condition, with overall minor wear and utensil scratches. One plate has a very small chip on the underside of the rim, as seen in the last picture.
