Vintage Johnson Brothers Piazza Plate Set. This nice and hard-to-find Johnson Bros. Mid-century Piazza place setting consists of a dinner plate, side plate, cup and saucer (4 of each for a total of 16 pieces).
It was among the most successful Staffordshire potteries which produced tableware, much exported to the United States, from the 1890s through the 1960s. This set is circa 1960s. Cool geometric pattern of concentric squares in orange, white, brown and green on a grayish-blue background. The overall large square is inset in a slightly depressed square in the interior of each piece.
Cups have a square bottom in keeping with the geometric design. All dishes and cups in excellent preowned condition with no indication of ever being used, no utensil marks.
The designs are sharp and bright. One plate has some barely noticeable imperfection from the firing process.
