Johnson Brothers Green Woodland Wild Turkeys 20 Oval Platter England Excellent

  

Recent find from a prominent North Carolina, 150 year old estate. This listing is for a very rare 20 oval Johnson Brothers Turkey Platter.

Slightly wider near the top as the sides flair slightly. Overall width is 15 1/2. Most platters with the pattern that you see have a brownish base edge color; this one is the more scarce green color. There is virtually no evidence of use other that two very small and nearly invisible marks on the front size.

Really only visible when viewing under direct light, at an angle. Possibly from storage rather than use. The back side has one tiny glaze flake (1/16), possibly a firing rest mark or glaze skip near the edge. Extremely small, glaze level only and definitely not a chip nor on the edge itself; very close to the edge, but not on the edge (see last two photos; backside of this area and a profile of the edge showing it's not visible on the edge).

Both the front side and the back side of this platter are brilliant. With Johnson Brother's early pieces, generally the backside will be a little more crudely finished with very visible firing rest marks and significant glaze imperfections.

The front side has amazing color with the glaze being consistent and having a high sheen. There are no chips, cracks, crazing, discoloration, or stains. This piece is truly stunning, extremely close to pristine and displays incredibly well.
